Public Hearing - Outdoor Wood boilers Notice is hereby given that Chocolay Township Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chocolay Township Hall at 5010 US-41 South, Marquette, MI to hear public comment on the proposed zoning ordinance amendment relating to outdoor wood boilers (OWB). OWB are proposed as a permitted use in the AF district, and a conditional use in all other districts. The amendment establishes new requirements for chimney height and setback for both Phase I and Phase II EPA approved appliances. Regulations pertain to types of materials that cannot be burned, location, inspection, best burn practices, and nuisances. OWB are required to have spark arrestors and may only be used from September 1 to May 31 each year. Commercial OWB require evaluation reports and other submittals for approval. The amendment also removes the 5 acre minimum lot size provision. Copies of the proposed amendment are available for review and inspection at the Chocolay Township Hall Mon – Fri 8 am – 5 pm, and can also be viewed at chocolay.org.
