Good News for all IIT Aspirants ! The controversial ‘percentile system’ that decides students’ eligibility for admissions into the IITs is set to change. Students scoring 75% or above in their Class XII exams will be eligible for a seat in the IIT after clearing the JEE (Advanced). The IITs now want the centre to allow students with 75% and above in boards where the earlier cut-off for top 20 percentile was more than 75%. In the March exam, CBSE had a cut-off of 83.2% and ISC, 85%. Only students with a score above these percentages were eligible for a seat in the IITs after clearing the JEE (Advanced). This resulted in many students to miss a seat in IITs despite qualifying for the entrance examination, as they had failed to figure in the top 20 percentile. Nevertheless, the modified rule, if accepted by the IIT council can benefit the students who score 75% marks in the board examination as they will meet the qualifying criteria of the IIT irrespective of the variations in the percentile cut off. The new system was introduced in 2013 to make students give more focus on their class 12 board examinations, which was widely ignored by IIT aspirants who, according to the earlier rule just had to score 60%.chill.....out iit aspirants.....
