Public Housing or Development Subsidy? The city doesn’t - TopicsExpress

Public Housing or Development Subsidy? The city doesn’t necessarily have a plan for the Aloha property yet, but staff members have started thinking about redevelopment...... vs. “The city has funds set aside for just this — the acquisition of property for affordable housing development,” Sundin said. “That doesn’t necessarily limit what council does with the property in the future.” Can someone explain what this means? The city is condemning the property, and that means it will be paying the property owner the fair market value of the property, and will become the new owner. It will be liable for cleaning up the dangerous chemicals on the property. If housing funds are used for the condemnation, how could we consider any other use of the property... such as, ... oh, I do not know...selling it to developers so they can make a profit after the city does all the work? If the city acquires this property, I want to see it put to some public use, such as low income housing (which, by the way, does occur when you sell the Samish Crest open space, north.) But knowing the priorities of this administration, I find it hard to be hopeful.
