Public Service Unions are destroying the ability of Nye County to provide much needed services to the residents. And the problem is statewide. Its time we all insist that the labor agreements currently be negotiated begin addressing this very real problem. Since just complaining never solves anything, I seriously suggest our negotiators introduce a two tier pay and benefit plan, wherein any new employees hired after the contract signing, would be paid at a much lower level and have their pay and benefits capped to those in the private sector locally with similar job titles and job duties. We also need to end the practice of supervisory and managers being paid six figure salaries. By reducing employee costs to a fair level, the money being saved could be spent on services, which is why we have government in the first place. At present the vast majority of tax revenue goes for salaries and benefits, with only a small percentage to services such as road repair.
