Publisher alleges threat to life A newspaper publisher, Mrs Shirley Munonye has cried out over alleged threat to her life by the Sole Administrator of Njaba LGA of Imo State, Capt. Chris Ibekwe (rtd). But in a swift reaction, the local government chief denied threatening her. He said he only requested that she retracts a false story published in a recent edition of her newspaper or risk a legal action. In a statement made available to Nigeria Newspoint last night, Mrs Munonye claimed that Capt. Ibekwe issued the threat via telephone. The publisher wondered why the SOLAD should threaten her life for reporting about a protest rally staged by women and youth recently at Afor-Umuaka Market in her newspaper, Frontline Express. According to her, she cannot take the threat lightly going by the security breaches in the country at present and the SOLAD’s background as an ex-military officer. Meanwhile, Capt. Ibekwe has refuted claim that he threatened publisher’sw life. According to him, he only told her to retract the story by Friday, June 7 or face a court action. He maintained that the protesters never mentioned him during the protest and wondered why the newspaper decided to include his name in its report. Nigeria Newspoint gathered that the protesters had complained against the Mayor of Aka City, Mrs Ngozi Obiefule and the former chairman of Njaba LGA, Chief Eddy Ikwubuo over the reconstruction of Afor-Umuaka Market.
