Pulling into Asheville, NC with Mike Dillon back in the van. Last night ended up being a pretty special show in Mikes absence. Sometimes when theres more space, theres more space to play. Step off the cliff, trust your parachute and youll figure it out one way or another. And play we did! Matt Hubbard was the renaissance man, soloing on Wurlitzer, harmonica, organ, melodica, train whistle, trombone... At one point during I Cant Wait, I was involved in a full-on dance party in the crowd while members of opener Shane Piaseckis band joined the boys on stage, Matt Hubbard blasting around the room with his trombone. There were also moments of heartfelt listening, How Many Times?, a rendition of Carry dedicated to the memory of Mikes Dad. Being able to mix things up like this, dancing and fun along with moments of deeper listening and solemnity... this is heaven for me. Thanks to everyone who came out, especially April Brown who never seems to miss a show when Im near the ATL! Much love. (And Mike Ds back in the saddle? Its on... Asheville tonight, Charleston tomorrow.)
