Pundit: Cardiff hero good enough for Man Utd Jamie Redknapp claims that Cardiff City’s match winner Steven Caulker is so good he could play for Manchester United. The first ever South Wales Derby ended in victory for the Premier League new boys as the former Swansea loanee powered a header past Swans keeper Michel Vorm, prompting scenes of delight from the Cardiff faithful. The pundit claims that he was so impressed with Caulker’s performance on Sunday that he may even be a surprise selection for England at next year’s World Cup. Caulker joined Cardiff from Tottenham Hotspur during the summer for a fee believed to be around £8m and has made a fantastic start to his time in Wales helping the Bluebirds to a reasonable start to life in the top flight. King As reported in Wales Online Redknapp said: “He’s so good he could play for Manchester United in the Champions League,” “Steven Caulker is the king of Wales, but how long will he stay at Cardiff? “His goal will bring greater attention but his performances all season have been first-class. “No disrespect to Cardiff, but this move is just a stepping stone for Steven.” Alert Spurs didn’t want Caulker to leave in the summer but his desires to play first team football lead them to making a decision to sell. His performances for Cardiff this season have alerted many clubs to the prospect of signing the player. If Malky Mackay’s side were to get relegated then it’s almost certain he will want to leave and join a Premier League side, so if the Bluebirds want to keep their man then a place in the division next season needs to be assured. With the World Cup being held in Brazil next summer there is the prospect the Caulker could yet stake a claim to be on the plane next summer. At the moment it’s clear that Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka are the preferred partnership but if an injury was sustained, think back to Rio Ferdinand in 2010, then maybe the former Spurs defender will get the nod to stand in as a replacement. *jeremy*
