Punjabi singer Jarnail Singh alias Jelly and three other men were booked for gangrape and kidnap, on Friday, a month after a complaint was filed by an actress at SAS Nagar. It is alleged that they blackmailed and raped her several times after video-recording their act. The accused include Swaran Singh, who works in the production team of Jelly, and Jelly’s two other associates, Maninder Singh and Charanpreet Singh. All remain to be arrested. Police said that the woman lodged the complaint with the senior superintendent of police (SSP) of SAS Nagar on September 29, in which she stated that she contacted Jelly to learn singing and he asked him to join training in Sector 57. There, she was allegedly gangraped by Jelly and the three others after being given some intoxicant in soft drink. They also recorded a video clip of the act, she claimed, and “continuously blackmailed and raped” her with the threat of uploading the video on the internet. The victim, a popular Punjabi actress, said she also got pregnant once and the accused took her to some private hospital where they forcibly got the child aborted. SP (headquarters) Harpal Singh Sandhu said that after conducting the preliminary enquiry regarding the allegations, the case was registered, and “arrests will be made soon”. The in-charge of the women cell conducted the preliminary enquiry and indicted the four men. The case has been registered under sections 376D (gangrape), 376 (rape), 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. Section 66 of the Information Technology (IT) Act has also been imposed.
