Putting a Smile on Hospital Visitors with His Music By: Jessica Chen Entering a hospital is very often a difficult and scary experience. But as Jessica Chen reports, at Orange Regional Medical Center, one man and his music, are helping to ease that pain. MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- If the sound of music can fuel a persons soul, it definitely fuels Jeff Krolicks. At 65 years old, this Orange County resident has played the piano for decades. It’s a passion of love as they say, I don’t think I would do it if i didnt enjoy it much, Krolick said. And for the last three years, the sound of his tunes have filled the halls at the Orange Regional Medical Center where he plays in the lobby for the sick, the recovering and those visiting. It brings back many memories, and many memories are good, and if you can do that and if you can instilled some really positive memories in people, that’s a good thing, he said. But the memory Jeff is reminded of is his time at the former Nevele Hotel in Ellenville. For more than 25 years, he was the music director there playing in front of thousands. We would play for a thousand people at a time, now you would play for one person at a time, Jeff said. But its not all about the numbers. That one person so often needs that performance to heal in a place so often filled with pain and uncertainty. A few of us come here because we want too, he said. And for the last few years, he says he hasnt skipped a beat playing five days a week, including holidays, because he says the music he plays now is all about fueling the souls of others who may need it the most. There is an old song that says if that song can make you smile then I’m happy and that’s pretty much what I go for, he said. - See more at: hudsonvalley.twcnews/content/news/797876/putting-a-smile-on-hospital-visitors-with-his-music/#sthash.534tYVM8.dpuf
