Q: Why on earth would someone add coconut oil to their coffee? Heres what I found: 1. Coconut oils medium chain fatty acids promote thermogenesis and lead to increased metabolic rates. 2. Coconut oil is believed to help regulate insulin levels. 3. Coconut oil can boost thyroid function helping to increase metabolism, energy and endurance. 4. Coconut oil helps to absorb fat-soluble vitamins. 5. Coconut oil helps lower cholesterol by promoting its conversion to pregnenolone, a molecule that is a precursor to many of the hormones in our body. 6. Heres the kicker - A 2009 study found that women who consume 2 tablespoons of coconut oil daily for 12 weeks not only DID NOT gain more weight, but actually had lowered amounts of abdominal fat - the one thats difficult to lose, an contributes to heart problems.
