#QLD #TropicalCyclone #Corp Below are the latest from Bureau of Meteorology Issued at 2:27 pm EST FLASH TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 22 Issued at 2:27 pm EST on Monday 10 March 2014 A Cyclone WARNING is current for coastal areas from Gilbert River Mouth to Weipa. A Cyclone WATCH is current for coastal and island communities from Port McArthur to Gilbert River Mouth. At 1:00 pm EST [12:30 pm CST] Tropical Cyclone Gillian, Category 1 was estimated to be 140 kilometres south southwest of Weipa and 20 kilometres northwest of Cape Keerweer and moving south southeast at 8 kilometres per hour. TROPICAL CYCLONE GILLIAN, CATEGORY 1, is expected to move in a southerly direction parallel to the west coast of Cape York Peninsula over the next 12 hours, though there is still a chance that the system may cross the coast between Cape Keerweer and Pormpuraaw later today. Tropical Cyclone Gillian has shown signs of weakening and may be downgraded to a low if it continues to show this weakening trend in the short term. In the longer term, the system will turn west southwest and under favourable environmental conditions may reintensify as it moves back across the Gulf of Carpentaria. If the cyclone approaches the coast, a storm tide may occur between Aurukun and Kowanyama. Large waves may produce minor flooding along the foreshore. People living in areas that may be affected by this flooding should take measures to protect their property as much as possible and be prepared to help their neighbours. People between Gilbert River Mouth and Weipa should remain inside until the cyclone threat has passed and listen to the next advice at 5 pm. - For cyclone preparedness and safety advice, visit Queenslands Disaster Management Services website (disaster.qld.gov.au) - For emergency assistance call the Queensland State Emergency Service (SES) on 132 500 (for assistance with storm damage, rising flood water, fallen trees on buildings or roof damage).
