QUESTION: In NW Ontario....We have thunderstorm activity and cool weather (its now down to about 62 F/18 C.) here now, and the same is forecasted for the next two days. There was extremely heavy rain earlier, just to the west of us, which is moving our way, with possible hail in areas. Two Monarchs were born here this morning, about 8:00 am, and fortunately, both are comfortably spending their 1st night indoors. It seems unreasonable to release them outside anytime soon, in such dire conditions. We gathered fresh nectar flowers today & now have flowers in the pop up cages, with the butterflies. Will this indoor flower-food set up be sufficient for a few days, when they do want to START to eat? Or, should a fresh fruit slush of some sort be provided? Whats best to do for these two Monarchs, while this cold, rainy weather prevails....supposedly through Saturday, at least.
