QUESTION: Which President said the following? (HINT: It was during his Second Inaugural Address.) . . . each time we gather to inaugurate a president, we bear witness to the enduring strength of our Constitution. What makes us exceptional, what makes us America is our allegiance to an idea articulated in a declaration . . . We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. That they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, and among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The patriots of 1776 did not fight to replace the tyranny of a king with the privileges of a few, or the rule of a mob. They gave to us a republic, a government of, and by, and for the people. Entrusting each generation to keep safe our founding creed . . . Beautiful words, arent they? Who comes to mind: Abraham Lincoln? Teddy Roosevelt? Ronald Reagan? Actually, its none of the above. ANSWER: Barack Obama. Surprised? I was too. You may be wondering how a President of the United States can use phrases like unalienable rights and government of, by, and for the people, when all of his actions point away from a republic of liberty, and toward bureaucratic despotism. Or more troubling, why so many Americans either dont notice, or dont care. I am convinced the reason is that too many Americans — especially young people — have not been educated about our Constitution. And if we allow that to continue, this nation you and I love will become less free and less prosperous, while our national government will become larger and more despotic. To turn our nation in the right direction, Americans must once again be educated for liberty, based on our Constitution and its founding principles. That is why Hillsdale College produces our popular series of free online courses on the Constitution, American Heritage, Free Market Economics, and more -- with over 900,000 enrollments so far! And why weve just added our newest course . . . The Presidency and the Constitution. It couldnt be easier to enroll . . . its no cost to you . . . and it will teach you—all Americans—what they need to know now in order to preserve and pass on our heritage of liberty to future generations. .
