QUIZ ANSWER- Last weeks Question: Here was the question: This miniature seemed fine yesterday but suddenly has difficulty walking now, showing the gait shown in the video. The title of the video you will notice is Stifle Lock 1 so that gives you an idea of what is wrong with the horse. I just pulled this video off youtube. The DIAGNOSIS is locking patella or Upward Fixation of the patella.Which of the following is NOT an important factor predisposing to the development of this condition? Hint: use Horse Side Vet Guide to learn more. horsesidevetguide/?page_id=20646&type=Diagnosis/431 A. Breed, Genetics B. Stifle arthritis or former stifle injury C. Fitness level D. Conformation E. Convalescence for a sole abscess __________________________ Locking Stifle: OK guys. not many people got this one. I didnt think it was that hard. THANKS TO YOU BRAVE SOULS WHO DID TRY! The answer I was looking for was B. Stifle injury or arthritis DOES NOT make locking patella more likely. In making Horse Side Vet Guide, my point was to give you key information that you could use to help guide your actions when you notice something going on with your horse, or a vet has given you a diagnosis. In this case, we know this is locking patella. So the question is what factors are related to it? In HSVG, you will read that certain breeds have this problem more commonly (miniatures for instance). Fitness level is KEY. Horses standing around not exercising are much more likely to get it (as in convalescing from a sole abscess). Conformation is a predisposing factor. Horses of very straight hind limb conformation are more likely to have this problem. BUT interestingly, horses with injury of the stifle or arthritis are NOT more likely to get it. https://youtube/watch?v=pyL2JyxfSC4
