Question: Does anyone know of an inquiry-based hands on science - TopicsExpress

Question: Does anyone know of an inquiry-based hands on science curriculum for students in grades 1-6? We found one which was developed by FOSS; however, they have a representative back home that isnt very flexible. Their representative doesnt seem to be savvy enough to seize on the opportunity we are presenting them. It amazes me at how simple minded many Americans are. I know I was the same way when I first came out here, but experience has taught me a lot and how to adapt. There is a company we have had contracts with for the past three years. Its an American owned company based out of Washington State and has offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and 5 cities in Mainland China. They have a great business model that has proven effective in the States and other foreign countries, however, they have consistently operated at a loss here in Mainland China. The CEOs Chinese staff has consistently followed up with him regarding changes to help turn things around, but hes not listening. Dont expect to come to China and penetrate the market with your great idea. It doesnt work that way. Perhaps in other countries it may work, but so many industries in China are centralized and controlled to the point that without the right relationship (notice I didnt say connection. Connection is just the first step, you need the relationship to make it happen.) you can forget about it. The public schools in China are centrally controlled which means each individual school DOES NOT have the autonomy with which to choose and develop their own curriculum. If the Dept of Ed tells you to use it, you MUST use it, no questions allowed. We have that relationship now, so were looking for the right company in the States with an amazing science curriculum that would like to capitalize on it.
