Question: What are responsibilities of pastors? Heidi Graps - TopicsExpress

Question: What are responsibilities of pastors? Heidi Graps Response: Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God? Equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ. Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he (Lord Jesus Christ) obtained with His own Blood. Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. The Lord gives Ezekiel a judgment about Pastors stating “The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: Ah, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves! Should not shepherds feed the sheep? You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat ones, but you do not feed the sheep. The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, the injured you have not bound up, the strayed you have not brought back, the lost you have not sought, and with force and harshness you have ruled them. So they were scattered, because there was no shepherd, and they became food for all the wild beasts.” Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Of which I became a minister according to the stewardships from God that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known; I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God (Lord Jesus Christ), who loved me and gave himself for me. Although I can provide more scriptures, I did not desire to write so much.
