Question of the Day Every October the fifth is celebrated globally as World Teachers Day. The day is used to mobilise support for teachers and ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met by teachers. It also represents a significant token of the awareness, understanding and appreciation displayed for the vital contribution that teachers make to education and development. A teachers professional duties may extend beyond formal teaching. Outside of the classroom teachers may accompany students on field trips, supervise study halls, help with the organization of school functions, and serve as supervisors for extracurricular activities. They are often described as nation builders. As Nigerian teachers join their counterpart globally to celebrate this year’s world teachers’ day, we ask in our question of the day: Considering the uncommon roles of teachers in Nation building, how best do you think Nigerian teachers can be motivated?
