Quick health tip- the sun doesnt seem to want to shine and neither - TopicsExpress

Quick health tip- the sun doesnt seem to want to shine and neither do many of your smiles. I agree that visually, the lack of vibrance and blue skies is a very somber and melancholy sight when its almost 3 weeks in a row of the same overcast scene. However, you need to know that there is a chemical reaction that occurs when sunlight hits your skin. This automatic synthesis of solar energy is responsible for regulating your mood (and many other important functions). The sun’s energy turns a chemical in your skin into vitamin D3, which is carried to your liver and then your kidneys to transform it to active vitamin D. From there it helps carry out many crucial metabolic functions that allow you to function, digest and feel good (also is anti-carcinogenic) . During winter months since there is not a lot of sunshine it is important to take a vitamin d3 supplement. For me, I take 10,000iu/day in the morning on an empty stomach when its an overcast day. I note an improvement in my mood within a couple hours my first day taking it but results vary depending on your personal chemical make up. I then taper the dose down to 5000iu the next day, 2000iu, 1000iu, 500iu then 200iu. I suggest taking 1000iu-2000iu on an empty stomach right when you wake up for a period of the first week then cut your dose in half the next week to allow ample amounts to be circulating through your bloodstream. Note -purchase the cholecalciferol type. Happy holidays!!
