Quick tip 2 - Hamstrings and calves. We can effect the flexibility - TopicsExpress

Quick tip 2 - Hamstrings and calves. We can effect the flexibility of this posterior muscle chain via the fascial connection linking these muscle groups together. Fascia is like a wrapper around our muscle fibres which if tightened can reduce flexibility and range of motion. Here is one way (of many ways) to loosen the wrapper - 1) Test your hamstring length by lying on your back and lifting you leg straight up- note the angle 2) Take your tennis ball and stand with it under the arch of your foot. Incrementally increasing your bodyweight onto the ball, roll the ball side-to-side and forward-backwards 3) Again youre looking for a tender sweet spot where there is a delicious pain that feels like it is doing you GOOD! 4) The key is to increase body weight whilst rolling out the fibres of the fascia. Note this line of fascia connects from the eyebrows, over the head and down the back all the way to the heel; releasing the tension in the fascia at the heel arch can effect change along this entire plane. 5) re-assess the angle of your straight leg lift and repeat on other foot (This release technique can be progressed moving to a smaller, harder ball)
