Quiet in the house tonight. Just the whir of the ceiling fan and some traffic going by. The sun is on its downward slide to sunset. Was thinking about growing up listening to radio stations across the country. We had an old radio/phonograph that I listened to in the Soo. I would try and get clear reception on faint stations to see what city the station was located. Then I got a small transistor radio. Japanese transistor radios were the thing! Battery operated, you old take them anywhere and they had an earphone, too. In Portage, my friend Denny had a portable radio that we listened to all the time. WLS in Chicago, Chicago, Chicago, 890 on the am dial. Dick Biondi at 9pm. Or, KAAY in Little Rock, the Doc Holiday Show. WDGY in Minneapols. Foreign stations on multi and radios intrigued me. Always wanted a Zenith Transoceanic. Listened to a few but always thought they were too expensive. A dealer in Portage had some German radios. Telefunken, I think. Denny and I would drool over them. Hs da had a Magnavox HiFi. Great sound. Those were the days of Ray Coniff, The Jackie Gleason Ochestra, and Montovani. That stereo had FM reception, too.
