Quilts of Valor of South Carolina and of Florida join hands. Nancy from Myrtle Beach, SC was heading to Florida for her Dads 90th birthday, and wanted to see her Dad receive a QOV for his service in World War II. Nancy has been a member with a QOVF chapter in SC for a little while, so the wheels started to turn. Nancy contacted friends in the chapter in SC and they got a quilt for her to bring to Florida for her Dad, but she wanted a member other than herself to present the quilt. Nancy contacted Linda Fentriss, Florida State Coordinator on Friday, who contacted a member of CT Quilters living the closest to the presentation location and things seem to fall into place. Nancy arrived at her Dad’s home in Ocala, Florida on Monday for his 90th birthday party set for Tuesday. A Janice V. of CT Quilters out of Tampa, Florida, met the daughter at her fathers home on Tuesday and was given the quilt to be presented to him. The SC chapter also place a Purple Heart on the quilts to veterans who have received this medal for wounds received in combat. Jerry A. is a veteran with service in WW II , Korea, and a short time in Vietnam. Janice spent from four hours listening to him share memories of his service to our country and could have stayed even longer. After the presentation of the quilt we went to his office with the walls full of his life on display. He served in the newly formed American Airborne in WW II, was in the D-Day jump into Normandy, Market Garden jump into Holland, and in the Battle of the Bulge with what is now the 101st Airborne. His Purple Heart was awarded for wounds received in the Battle of the Bulge. It was a wonderful way to show the Quilts of Valor Foundation working together to see all combat veterans are wrapped in a warm thank you and welcome home for their service and sacrifice to our nation. The first picture is Jerrys graduation from Airborne School. The next shows Jerry with his wife and daughter and his quilt.
