Quite a lot of people get confused about the concept of nutrition when it comes to egg consumption. Millions of people all over the world mistake the different parts of egg when nutrition comes to mind. People mistakenly think that because egg yolk contains Cholesterol it is the worst part of the egg hence they discard that part of the egg. However, as against popular belief, research has it that the Egg Yolk is the healthiest part of the egg. The egg yolk should not be thrown away because of the notion that it makes regular eaters gain more weight… Infact, when you throw away the egg yolk, you are throwing away the most nutrient dense and anti-oxidant rich, mineral and vitamin loaded portion of the egg. This is because it contains so many trace minerals, vitamin A, folate and other highly essential nutrients. egg whites almost lack the nutritional components a healthy body needs. It contains less than 9% of all the supplements you need, whereas the egg yolk has over 90% in rich nutrients which include calcium, iron, vitamin B6, B12, panthogenic acid, phosphorous, zinc, thiamine, folate plus all the fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A,D,E and K including ALL the essential fatty acids needed in the body for proper nutritional balance. However, the major objection from many people when Egg yolk is said to be the healthiest part of the egg is the ‘fact’ that dietitians assert that egg yolks contain cholesterol which will make the cholesterol level of the body go up. This is totally wrong! The claim is untrue because eating eggs help balance up or regulate the body’s cholesterol level. The consumption of egg yolks protects the body tissues against inflammation, hence, the high risk of heart diseases when enough cholesterol is not sufficient in the body. According to an online research work from the University of Connecticut in U.S, it showed an experiment performed with two groups of men who were subjected to eat 3 whole eggs per day with low carbohydrate foods for 12 weeks straight, and the second group of men where asked to eat only egg whites with low carbohydrate foods. The results of the experiment shows that the group of men that ate whole eggs plus the yolk were able to increase their HDL good cholesterol levels by 20% while their LDL bad cholesterol stayed the same. Furthermore, the other group of men that ate only egg whites, there was no significant increase in good HDL cholesterol (remember that a higher HDL Cholesterol level are associated with reduced risk of heart disease and attack) which the first group of men who ate the whole eggs have as a result. This would make you believe that eating whole eggs is healthier than just eating only egg whites which many practice today. It has also been discovered that the best type of egg source comes from local chickens that feed on a variety of vegetables, insects, worms as this transfers a higher level of nutrients to the eggs when compared to the eggs from poultry fed chickens that are fed only wheat and soyabeans.
