Quite frankly folks, if i see another comment indicating execution at the hands of a police officer is completely valid thus undermining the reason we have a justice system founded on the basis of innocent until proven guilty, you may find it uncomfortable having me on your friend list. I do not believe every cop is corrupt nor do i believe a cop should sacrifice their life to save the life of one trying to kill them. I do however believe from knowing cops and having dated them, there are many who view themselves above the law. This must change. We have entered a society that allows police officers to enforce law at their leisure and racial preference. Again, not all cops do this. But one who does is more than enough. One is an unacceptable number for police brutality. For racial profiling. For he committed suicide while in custody. For he might have had a weapon. For he looked guilty. This must change. Were better than this. The false patriotism that our police can do no wrong and any who think otherwise are terrorist sympathizers, must stop. We created our country to be better than that. We created checks and balances to prevent corruption and monopolies of power. We have a justice system based on the foundation that you are innocent until proven, beyond a reasonable doubt, that you are guilty. A few bad apples spoil the bunch. I am so sorry and thankful to the good police officers out there doing their jobs honestly that have to now carry the burden of more oversight because their colleagues cant get their shit straight. Its not fair to them. Its not fair to anyone. This must change. I have read so much nonsense about the ferguson trial and all the ways the prosecutor failed to do his job. If it were one or two people, i could imagine it was some hurtful story telling. But it isnt. Its many people. We see video of Kajieme Powell shot and then his lifeless body handcuffed. We read news of a black man shot to death becuase he committed suicide in the back of a squad car with an anterior entry wound and his hands behind his back. This must change. People talk about black criminals runjing from the cops. If they have nothing to hide why would they run? the people ask. And i used to agree. I see the news now and I think why wouldnt they? They could be shot to death just for being suspected of a crime. Doesnt even matter if theyre guilty or even a suspect. A 12 yr old shot to death on a playground. That made the news but there are so many more that didnt. This must change. I read about a girl being expelled in new york for refusing to participate in a rally to celebrate police officers. I think about if my god daughter were in front of me asking if police are safe. I dont know what id say. Shes white. Im white. Shell probably be okay. I was raised to believe that cops were who you went to if you have a problem. Part of me still believes that. Part of me can no longer believe that. This must change.
