Quite lengthy, but i figured i should share. When i was about 7 years old, i experienced a rainstorm that was quite terrifying. That day, we were under the care of our house help; Rabi. Rabi was about fifteen, she spoke very very poor English but she was still excellent company. When it started raining, i and my siblings kept staring out the window. As we watched, our compound began to get flooded! I was so scared that i just stood there, transfixed. When rain water began to seep into the house, i began to beg God to forgive my sins (lol). As we watched, our fence collapsed with a very loud crash. We rushed to tell Rabi what was up, only to find out that she was already snuggled up in a corner- sleeping. From the Hausa-English she managed to speak, i gathered that she intended to sleep through the storm because (according to her) the weather would make sleep very sweet. I thought she was crazy. So we came up with the bright idea to leave both Rabi and the house and go to our family friends house! The current was strong, and the flood water was quite high, our last born was about a year and few months but we still went anyway. My elder sister had to carry him at her back and the rain just kept flogging the four of us. It was only God that kept that water from sweeping us away. Reflecting on that now, i just shake my head and thank God for delivering us from our foolishness. I saw that in our feeble bid to get away from a perceived danger we got ourselves into a bigger one; cause nothing even happened to our house or Rabi. We saw the storm as a threat to our lives but Rabi saw it as a blessing. All those time we spent staring at the rain and flood water, we could have just slept (like Jesus slept during the storm) but we were kids, we didnt know better. So now, heres a real bright idea: get your eyes off the storm and REST in the promises of God. Some times we think we know the solution to a problem or what we need but we are mistaken, stop and ask God to guide you. TRUST in the One who knows what lies ahead and you wouldnt get carried away by the flood waters. Happy weekend.
