Quite often the problem isnt what we eat, its how much we eat. Something useful to try is eating slower and stopping when 80% full. Ramming food down until your trousers want to burst isnt necessary. Weve been brought up in a society where the thing to do is clean your plate, food left uneaten is viewed as a failure. However it takes about 20minutes for our satiety mechanism to kick in, meaning that we could be full yet eat far more. A useful tool is to eat until no longer hungry. This will take some time to get used to but it will reduce your calorie intake over 24 hours. This is for people wanting to loose weight, not gain weight. Some other benefits of this are improved digestion, better performance if eating before a workout and better sleep if eating close to bed time. Take time eating your meals if you can, enjoy them and try setting the knife and fork down when satisfied, not when about to burst.
