Quote: Hydraulic Fracturing (or “Fracking”) has been one of the worst things next to deforestation to ever happen to the environment by humans. Fracking is the act of oil companies drilling huge holes in the earth and extracting fossil fuels by using millions of liters of freshwater and many chemicals to break up the earth deep underground. To put it lightly, this practice is extremely harmful to the earth and to us. There is evidence to suggest that fracking has been the cause of many sinkholes and earthquakes around the world. This practice is very prominent in the United States and has received little backlash until recently. On top of the increasing number of sinkholes appearing, this practice of fracking is infiltrating and polluting freshwater sources. Once a source of water is contaminated by the chemicals used during the drilling process, it cannot be cleaned, even through a water treatment plant. Oil companies are making billions of dollars off of destroying the earth. This is not something we should take lightly. The public deserves to know what is going on, especially when there are other sources of energy that can completely replace the need for fossil fuels.
