R.I.P.CPL James Ferguson Pro Patria .... Fellow Royals I have received very sad news of the passing of a serving soldier of The Royal Canadian Regiment. Corporal James R. Ferguson, of 1st Battalion The Royal Canadian Regiment, passed away suddenly on Saturday 02 August 2014. Next of Kin have now been informed and this grievous news was passed to Regimental Headquarters by the 1 RCR Command Team for onward distribution to the Regiment. Corporal James Ferguson was 27 years of age and had been a member of The Royal Canadian Regiment since 2008. His Regimental employment has been with 1 RCR, where he served with Charles Company, 9A Tac, and most recently with the Battalion Operations Section. Corporal Ferguson deployed operationally to Kandahar Province, Afghanistan with the 1 RCR Battle Group, Task Force 1-10, from May-November 2010. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 2011. James Ferguson is survived by his wife Jessica. Of the tragic loss of Corporal Ferguson, the Commanding Officer of 1 RCR, Lieutenant-Colonel Jason C. Guiney, had these words for members of the Regiment, “The Battalion’s thoughts and prayers are with Cpl Ferguson’s family and friends. Cpl Ferguson was a well-respected member of First Battalion and we will honour his memory by soldiering on. We will grieve his loss, remember him, support his friends and family and carry on with our mission.” On behalf of Regimental Headquarters I would wish to extend my heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Corporal James Ferguson and to his many comrades in the First Battalion. I know these sympathies and sense of loss will be shared by all Royal Canadians. Regimental Headquarters will be sure to pass on memorial and funeral service information as these become available.
