R.I.P. TO THOSE MINE WORKERS WHO LOST THEIR LIFES IN A MINE ACCIDENT IN SOMA - MANISA - WESTERN TURKEY Our prayers and thoughts are with them mine workers (who probably got the job in the mine, 2000 meters under ground, as the last chance to get a job, having to work to earn to feed their families for the risk of their lives) and their families in Soma !... Hope that rescue service workers will save as many miners alive as they can from the coal mine owned by private investment ... One miner whos been rescued alive from the mine has just stated that Ive counted nearly 119 dead bodies so far !... At least 20 miners were killed and up to 300 are reported trapped after an explosion and fire at a coal mine in Soma - Manisa 125 kms (75 miles) up north from Izmir in western Turkey, an official said !... About 20 people were rescued from the mine in the town of Soma, in the province of Manisa, but one died in hospital, local administrator Mehmet Bahattin Atci said... He added that the explosion was caused by a power distribution unit and between 200 and 300 more workers are still inside the mine... Rescue efforts are under way, Mr Atci told reporters... One of the prime news channels , NTV television said the accident occurred two kilometres inside the mine... Tamer Kucukgencay, the head of a mining trade union for the region, told the state-run Anadolu Agency that fresh air was being pumped into the mine... Journalists were being kept away from the site but a witness told the station that ambulances were entering and leaving the area... Rescue teams from neighbouring regions were being sent to the area and Turkeys energy and natural sources minister Taner Yildiz was on his way to Soma to oversee the rescue operation, NTV reported... Mining accidents are common in Turkey which is plagued by poor safety conditions and they are not improved and forced to improve by the state mining laws and followed up on them , as the central government senators, ministers and high ranked directors in Ankara have been busy on filling up their own pockets, allowing their close friends to sign up billion dollar worth state projects, like freeway constructions, bridges, big blocks of flats ( 25 - 45 floors towers in big cities ) and inflating their Euro - Dollar bank accounts since the last 11 years !... The countrys worst mining disaster was the one in 1992 ; gas explosion that killed 270 workers near the Black Sea port of Zonguldak up north !... mirror.co.uk/.../turkey-coal-mine-
