RA tenders under scrutiny Jan Poolman Thursday, September 25, 2014 - 08:00 News THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into alleged irregularities at the Roads Authori-ty (RA) surrounding tender awards, which in some instances implicate senior officials. Nelius Becker, Chief: Investigation and Prosecution in the Office of the Anti-Corruption Commission, confirmed the investigation, but did not want to elaborate on the issue. “At this stage we need some clarification from RA on some issues and, depending on the information, a decision would be taken about the way forward,” Becker said. Although information regarding the investigation is sketchy at this stage, it seems that millions of dollars had been exchanged with the allocation of tenders and that, apart from senior officials allegedly involved, names of RA Board are also thrown in the pot of alleged irregularities. It seems that certain companies were favoured and tenders had been awarded to them on condition that some officials would also benefit from the tender allocation. In some cases, no tender procedures were followed and “favoured” companies were apparently given the tender on a “fast-track basis.” Some time ago, RA purchased crushed material for the Omakange to Okahao project which was apparently sold to various contractors and persons, but it is unclear who got the money.
