RABBIT CALICI VIRUS ALERT: This message was posted to the Rabbit Council of NZ group over Facebook this morning. PLEASE READ: RCD Alert - North Shore " I have had another report of suspected. RCD in the Rosedale Road area. That is near the Massey Uni / Albany area and goes through to East Coast Bays. I do not know at what part of Rosedale she lives so have given general area. This lady is not a rabbit club member and does not wish to give anymore detail other than she has been advised of our quarantine requirements of 110 days and will adhere to them. Symptoms were OK during the day and dead next morning. One only was lethargic. Blood from mouth and botton. Normal symptom of RCD. " If you live around North shore or Auckland, now would be a good time to seriously consider getting your rabbit vaccinated. Vaccination cost varies around $40 but is worth it. The virus spreads quickly and easily too. There was another reported case last week from North Shore as well, so please take care! Remember, if any of you ever hear about or experience what you believe is Calici virus, please keep us updated! Its important to spread the word so that breeders around can take extreme care. The virus can live in one place for up to 110 days, which is the given quarantine time as well, so beware of buying and selling rabbits around North Shore within this given time. THANKYOU! :)
