RACIST is in ANA Soul. Don’t fly with ANA if you cannot speak Japanese…will be treated as a second class. My son was booked to fly from Bangkok to Boston on an ANA flight (Bangkok-Narita-Chicago-Boston) with the assistance of ANA Airport Support as requested on Jan 5, 2014. He took Flight NH916 on Jan 5 from Bangkok to Narita and was escorted from the plane to Gate 42 for his next flight to Chicago (NH12). Shortly before boarding, he was informed that his connecting flight from Chicago to Boston had been cancelled due to problematic weather. ANA staff did not attempt to inform us of the situation, apparently because we cannot speak Japanese. Believe it or not! One ANA staff person even laughed at my son when he told them that I did not speak Japanese. Since we had not been given any information or assistance by the staff at Gate 42, we decided not to let our son board Flight NH12 to Chicago. After the departure of Flight NH12 to Chicago, ANA staff did not provide any assistance or make any suggestions regarding what to do next and our son was left all alone at the gate. He went to the Narita Airport Connecting Flight Counter by himself to ask about the next available flight to Boston. As we were very desperate and extremely worried about our son being left alone, we called the ANA office at the airport in Bangkok to see whether someone could help. An ANA staff person, a duty manager, said that he would request for ANA personnel to attend to our son at Narita. Despite several confirmations by the duty manager that someone would meet my son at the ANA Transit Counter, no one showed up to meet him as he waited anxiously for several hours. In fact, ANA staff members kept lying because they believed that it was pointless to meet our son. As we tried to solve the problem of our son being left alone at Narita, we also began searching for the next available flight to Boston. We found a Japan Airlines flight but it left the next day (Jan 6). We asked ANA staff if they could escort our son to the hotel (we were informed that all hotel expenses would be our family’s responsibility) and pick him up to check in for his flight the next day. ANA staff said that the best they could do was drop him off at the bus stop; he would be responsible for getting himself to the hotel and back to the airport the next day. Finally, we decided to have our son fly back to Bangkok. We were initially informed that the ticket would cost THB 80,000 despite the fact that our son already had a round trip ticket (Bangkok – Boston). Ultimately, the Bangkok office told us that he could use the ticket from Narita – Bangkok instead.
