RADiUS-TWC takes Junge, Davidson’s Lego doc for world Distributor RADiUS-TWC has acquired most worldwide rights for Daniel Junge and Kief Davidson’s Beyond the Brick: A Lego Brickumentary (pictured), which traces the story of Lego from children’s toy to global phenomenon. The acquisition excludes rights for France, Germany, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and Brazil, where sales will be handled by the doc’s financier GEM Pictures. The doc – which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April – follows the evolution of the trademark toy from its creation in 1958 to its use by “brick artists” in human-scale models and large structures. It is narrated by actor Jason Bateman and delves into the impact of the Lego brick, its global fan base and the innovative uses for it around the world. “We’ve been looking for a film that families can enjoy together and Beyond the Brick: A Lego Brickumentary surpasses all of those expectations,” said RADiUS co-presidents Tom Quinn and Jason Janego in a joint statement. “The movie is an amazing ride and will appeal to Lego fans around the world.” The deal was negotiated by Quinn and Janego with Josh Braun of U.S. sales firm Submarine acting on behalf of the filmmakers. realscreen/2014/05/31/radius-twc-takes-junge-davidsons-lego-doc-for-world/
