RAF WITTERING CHEF Corporal Neal Harding raised a whopping £2500.00 for Children with Cancer UK through a series of fundraising events, including a charity auction and culminating in the 2014 London Marathon. Children with Cancer UK is the leading national childrens charity dedicated to the fight against all childhood cancers. Around 3,600 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK . The charity’s aims are to determine the causes, find cures and provide care for children with cancer. During his fundraising campaign Neal wrote to every Premiership Football Club asking for prizes for the charity auction. Liverpool, Manchester United, Leicester City and Glasgow Rangers all donated signed pennants, stadium tours, gift bags and match tickets. Months of training, including some arduous running in the cold winds of the Falkland Islands whilst on detachment, paid off handsomely as Neal crossed the line in an impressive 3 hours and 20 minutes. Neal said of the London Marathon; “It’s an amazing experience and I would thoroughly recommend anybody else to do it. You might not think it at the time whilst you’re training and getting up really early to go for a run, but when it’s done it gives you a real sense of achievement.” Corporal Harding is a member of RAF Wittering’s Base Support Squadron; his Commanding Officer is Squadron Leader Liz Corry. She said; “Base Support Squadron is very proud of Corporal Harding’s achievements. Neal has worked hard and trained hard over the last six months and the money he’s raised is going to a worthy cause.”
