RAIN/SNOW UPDATE: Rain is starting to fall in parts of northern Canterbury, but as a whole the region isn’t looking to bad currently. This afternoon we expect more persistent widespread rain to develop north of Greta Valley/Hawarden. Further south most of the region will see increasing cloud with isolated showers developing. There is still the potential for significant snow above 500-600m about the Kaikoura Ranges/Hanmer Springs/ and hills north of Hawarden. Snow could well drop to 400m during Sunday morning in these areas. Conditions will improve from the south Sunday morning and by mid-afternoon most of the region will be in the clear! ALPINE ROADS: Snow is likely to fall on Porters Pass this evening with 5-8cm possible between 8pm and 9am Sunday. Snow will set in this evening on the Lewis Pass and continue through to 9am Sunday with 7-12cm possible above 600m. HEAVY SNOW: Heavy snow will set in later this evening about the Kaikoura hills and mountains: 5-10cm 600m 15-20cm 800m and up to 25-30cm possible above 1000m Keep the reports coming in during the afternoon and evening - Russ
