RAIN & TIDE: HLEGU-BAGO ROAD INUNDATION ------------------------------------------------------ It has been a couple weeks since Hlegu-Bago road section and communities along it have been inundated with monsoon floods. Residents say the evening rainfalls and swelling of Bago River and Bala creek have caused the floods, which have disrupted their livelihoods. Resident, Khin Win Tint: It’s too bad! My house is inundated. The flood came suddenly while we are asleep so we didnt have time prepare. I have children to take care it’s not okay at all! Resident, Aung Shwe: We have to use boats if we’re going to and fro. For me, I have to stop my business. It’s not okay for me living hand-to-mouth. Residents are not new to flooding but they said this year is the worst. Resident, Han Htun: This year is worse compared to previous years. It has not receded after 14 or 15 days. Motorists passing along the area have also been affected. MOTORIST, Aung Lay: I always travel from Hlegu to Bago and I’ve never experienced such severe flood. I had to stop here as I cannot continue my journey. As the monsoon season continues, residents are calling for assistance from authorities to help check the drainage, hoping for floods to recede.
