RAMADAN PREPARATION GUIDE: REPENTANCE PART 2 Allah (SWT) says in Surah An-naba: 34. But when there comes the greatest catastrophe (i.e. the Day of Recompense, etc.), 35. The Day when man shall remember what he strove for, 36. And Hell-fire shall be made apparent in full view for (every) one who sees, 37. Then, for him who Tagha (transgressed all bounds, in disbelief, oppression and evil deeds of disobedience to Allah). 38. And preferred the life of this world (by following his evil desires and lusts), 39. Verily, his abode will be Hellfire; 40. But as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself from impure evil desires, and lusts. 41. Verily, Paradise will be his abode. The unfortunate person who persists in following his desires will abide in the Hellfire and furthermore, he will lead a life of discontentment. We think that our unhappiness is the result of poverty or this problem and that problem but in reality, unhappiness is inseparable from a life of sin. Righteous people face far greater trials than we do, yet Allah (Jalla wa ‘ala) puts contentment in their hearts. So if we want the reward of fasting in Ramadan; if we want to achieve taqwa; if we want to change our lives for the better and if we want to enter Jannah, we must make the intention to give up our sins NOW. We should control our tongues and refrain from backbiting because we fast also with the tongue, and backbiting breaks that fast and reduces the reward. We need to control what we see because we also fast with our eyes. We must stop watching haraam TV shows or risk receiving no reward for our fasts.
