RANT - MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS! Weve all done it! Im guilty of doing this in the past and i cringe when i think back to doing it...! People think youre a dick for doing it! What am i talking about? When youre in the gym and you go to offer some un-needed, un-invited advice to someone mid set. Im all for helping people in the gym if i see something potentially dangerous that may cause an injury. Or if i feel someone could be getting more from a set/exercise if i sense they are potentially new to the gym. However, i would never speak to them mid set or if that person didnt appear to be advanced in their training/intensity. Tonight, i was mid set into a tripple drop set on leg press. The first 2 drops were with form and under tempo - the last drop was an all out pump until you drop burn out. No tempo, no rest and form wasnt important. However, i had the lovely pleasure of a gentlemen coming up to me on rep 35, tapping me on the shoulder (while my headphones are plugged in i might add) and suggest that id get more out of the set if i slowed my reps down.... He hadnt seen the first 30 reps under tension, nor had he seen the weight that I dropped it down from... however, he made an assumption and he was sticking to it. When i was finished, i was too battered to explain the situation and just thanked him for his opinion. It was the quickest way to get rid of him to be honest. But it did make me think and remind me to NEVER offer advice to someone mid set - its so infuriating and you never know the full picture. People train with different goals and therefore the training will always scope around this. Like i said, unless you see something dangerous, id suggest that you keep yourself to yourself, unless you are friendly with that person. I had a similar scenario when doing partial reps a few months back too... the comment was have you ever thought about doing full range of motion with your reps... ARGGGGGG!!!!!!! lol RANT OVER ;-) Know it, Feel it, Live it
