::::: RATS VICTORY HAS PRESS EXCITED FOR THE DERBY ::::: The RATS faced the first of two major tests with aplomb on Saturday and in the process silenced the nay-sayers. Their defeat of reigning Premiers Sydney Uni 31-30, in what the media are rating as one of the best battles Club Rugby has seen in a while, has set up an epic Derby next Saturday against Northern Beaches rivals Manly. With Uni left to ponder their second loss in as many weeks - and to a second Northern Beaches side - the RATS now take stock as they prepare for possibly their biggest test yet. In a nail-biter, the RATS held an impressive lead for most of the match before Uni fought back to come within a point of the RATS. A controversial call by Ref Ed Martin nearly cost the RATS the game....and no doubt will cause him a few nightmares when he watches the replay. Certainly the ABC commentary team and other journalists covering the game were vocal about the poor decision if it ended up costing the RATS victory. Thankfully the heavens...or possibly the collective exhale of those in the stands - sent Dan Kellys kick into the posts. And the rest is history. In his column on Saturday morning SMH reporter Rupert Guinness gamely pointed out what many were quietly thinking....is the RATS winning streak a fluke? This morning his answer was a resounding definitely not. Missed Rupert Guinness review of the match in todays SMH? READ IT HERE NOW!! CARN THE RATS - CELEBRATING 50 YEARS IN 2014!!!
