::::: RAYS HOLD ON FOR DRAW AS RAMS STORM HOME :::: The North Harbour Rays relinquished a solid first half lead to settle for a 34 all draw in their clash against the Western Sydney Rams at Brookvale Oval on Sunday. In one of the more entertaining games of rugby to date in the NRC, the Rays looked to have the better of their opponents, notching up a 24-8 lead heading into the sheds at halftime. But the Rams came out a more determined side in the second and it wasnt long before they laid down the gauntlet with fleet footed Rams flyhalf Jai Ayoub and pacey winger Jarome McKenzie crossing the chalk to even the scores at 24 a piece after conversions. The tussle for the lead remained tight before the Rams took a 2 point advantage, taking the scores to 34-32 with only minutes on the clock. It looked like the game was over. But the Rays had other ideas and some play by the Rays in the dying seconds of the game drew a penalty in front of the posts, giving HAMISH ANGUS free reign to punt one through to even the scores on the bell. Despite the outcome, it was one of the more entertaining games for the Rays and RATS players again featured strongly on the day. SIRELI TAGICAKIBAU was at his blistering best proving a menace for the Rams when on the attack. Though failing to add to his already impressive try tally on the weekend, SAM WARD was excellent in defence and proved once again how valuable a player he is when it come to gaining territory for his team but also laying the opposition to ground. JOSH HOLMES move to the wing added some excitement as he reminded the crowds that hes pretty quick when give some space to get going. He appeared to relish the opportunity to get more of the action in play and showed his class when only two meters from the line, opened up a gap to put Marlin Ed Gower through the posts to score the Rays last try of the afternoon. The Rays now have a quick turnaround this week before heading to Canberra to face the Vikings in their round 7 clash on Thursday night. While the draw has them still a point behind the Rams and now Perth Spirit (both on 11), the Rays are sitting pretty on the board with a game in hand. The Rams bye weekend and a tough couple of rounds against the table toppers over the next two weeks will almost certainly elevate the Rays if they can grab a win at Viking Park this week, bringing them closer to their goal of a Top 4 finish and finals contention. This Thursdays game will be televised live on Fox Sports.
