RE- END GAME FOR BUKOLA SARAKI’S KWARA HEGEMONY- ------------------------------------------------------ Having read Mr Isaq Modibo’s article published yesterday being 6th of March 2014 on Vanguard News and some other news platform, it is salient to correct the author on his misgivings based on his new found ‘’love’’ for the out-of-favour PDP and his several attempt to sound politically correct. In a democratic environment, and a polarized one for that matter, it is almost normal to find people embrace a course for different reasons. No doubt, the rally held by the PDP may have attracted the type of ‘’crowd’’ it had based on the pedigree of the attendees (especially the number one citizen) and not necessarily on their integrity level or popularity. The rally had initially showed symptoms of an event lacking a proper structure and coordination by the Kwara state chapter of the PDP- hence, the need to embark on an SOS mission by involving the Senate President David Mark and Governor’s from other states who in turn imported civil servants and party loyalists to make up the crowd all in the name of cultural troops to add flavour to the rally according to the Bayelsa States representatives. Of course, no thoughtful Kwaran who understands the political situation will appraise such a rally, since competence, vision and purpose have been abandoned to fight political battle, a move too-low-a blow even for the president who has lost support of majority of Kwarans and Nigerians at large. This singular rally no doubt has exposed the several ineptitudes of Kwara’s PDP and their woes would be further compounded come 2015 general elections. The question one would be tempted to ask is whether these outsiders would neglect their respective states to come to the aid of the PDP in the state to help them win elections. Initially, the event slogan for the rally before hand was tagged ‘’Unity Rally’’, but as more unknown faces alighted from the white buses on the parade ground to fill the capacity crowd, the slogan was immediately changed to ‘’freedom rally’’. I am bemused to ask again.. Where is the freedom in the rally? In specific terms, what, aside the usual message of hope reminiscences of the ‘’I had no shoe’’ did the president or the defectors bring to indicate seriousness on their part? Did the president bring any project done by FG such as dams, hospital, roads or massive employment to the state in the last four years? The writer also failed to capture the pettiness of Mr President who was only trying to bring down the legacy of the late Oloye, Baba Saraki who through his life made sacrifices to Kwara and Nigeria which endeared him to the hearts of Kwarans, a role his son Senator Bukola Saraki has continued to play. For that singular act, Jonathan lost a lot of Kwarans whom before the visit werent really on the side of Bukola Saraki or APC but felt since the president lacks substance, they might as well partnered with a man and party who have opened their doors to get fresh ideas and have a track record of delivering even with little resources. The author indeed presumed that Kwarans have short memory just like himself, as he exhibited in his comical write up. The president before hand, has never visited Kwarans since he won the 2011 general elections. But deem it fit to receive defectors in the wake of public outcry for the presidency to visit the crisis ridden areas of Borno and Yobe where hundreds of young school children had lost their lives and others seriously begging for his interventions. Playing politics with Kwarans at this dire time. Since 2011, the president has had no reason to visit Kwara, not even to appreciate Kwarans for their huge support toward his success in 2011 general elections. Its important to make it known even though it may be difficult to accept by the author; the All Progressive Party has come to Kwara, and it has come to stay. There is a determined change in Kwaras political ideology and the people have followed this breeze of change- everyone knows the current Kwara PDP consist of fly-away politicians who are nocturnals, they fly away after loosing elections and come back to Kwara at the eve of another election to make usual noise. More so, these are people who rose through the ranks through the Saraki political structure, but out of their greed and selfish interests, they ran out of the system to ride down the crisis lane with PDP; the battle is lost for PDP on arrival, Kwarans are not daft to know PDP and its movers in Kwara are popular failures in the state.
