RE: Shae Shae - Post Op 1 Week To All our Family - TopicsExpress

RE: Shae Shae - Post Op 1 Week To All our Family Friends Well, I have not really put anything out the last couple of days, even though each day there is a little improvement with our brave and strong Warrior Angel, but we have been waiting until Tara spoke with the neurosurgeon. Tara spoke with Dr. Duncan, “the Doctor’s Choice” doctor and he indicated that he was quite happy with the surgery and MRI results. They got as much of the tumor out as possible, remaining within the safe boundaries and are optimistic with further treatment we can get rid of the rest. As he told Tara, now it is up to the specialists to decide our next course of treatment. Tissue samples have been sent not only to Kaiser but also to UCSF, who are working jointly to analyze and come up with the best treatment option. As of last night Shae was moved from PICU to the pediatric ward. They have also started weaning her off the steroids, so her appetite is starting to return to normal. I have attached a couple of pictures, including Shae working with PT, Shae and a new teddy from the doctor that has been taking care of her the last week (she has conquered another doctor and staff and they all love Shae, but that is nothing new), a visit from some awesome friends, and my favorite, Shae Shae blowing her Ta Ta kisses!!! A very big highlight yesterday was that Shae, whom we all know is a great swimmer and loves swimming on her swim team, received a personal video message from Natalie Coughlin, a 12 time Olympic swimming medalist, the first woman to ever swim the 100 meter backstroke in under 1 min, and the 1st female U.S. Athlete to win 6 medals in 1 Olympic game. This was orchestrated by one of the other swim team mothers, @Michelle Carnahan. Natalie sent best wishes for a speedy recovery and hoped she would be back to swimming soon and told her to remain brave and strong!!! Shae Shae is growing stronger every day. Her right side is still quite weak but every day brings a new “improvement”. She is walking, with support but will, for at least the next little while, be in a wheelchair. It is very fortunate that her quad is as strong from her swimming as it is because that is helping with her “walking motion” greatly. Today was a major step in that she was able to bend her right elbow. So, as I said, every little step or movement is a big step or movement in bringing our darling Shae Shae back. She is still having some issues with word recollection, but has been working hard at keeping up with her class doing school work every day. At least for the next little while they will be doing home schooling by the school district so that Shae may keep up with her classmates, while working with PT and OT as often as necessary. The wonderful thing is that Shae is up for and wanting to do all of this to get back to where she was just a few months ago so there is no doubt, in any of our minds, that she will do just that. The best news of all came late today when the doctor told Tara that they would be releasing Shae Shae tomorrow. We are all excited for her to get home, especially her sisters, mummy and daddy and, of course, Gramma and Grampa. There is a long road ahead to fight the battle, but if anyone can do it, and will do it, it will be our darling Warrior Angel, Shae Shae. Please keep all the prayers and positive thoughts going strong. We still need miracles for a full recovery!!!! As always, many thanks again for all the support and love coming from everyone.
