RE: money in politics, huge campaign contributions are more valuable to politicians representing much larger populations. Thats why its easier for a corporation to buy a senator, governor, or president than it is for a corporation to buy the vote of a city council candidate or state house rep. A state house rep can actually walk to the door of every single voter personally, so even if an opponent has 200 billion dollars to run ads against them, it wont really affect the outcome of the race to the same extent as in a senate race where the voters going to the polls are just checking yes on the name they heard the most often in TV ads. As a result, if you dont want corporations to be able to influence policy, then the policy in question needs to have its authority at the smallest level of government possible, rather than the largest.
