RE-posting of weekend happenings. With Debra Ralston Hello, all. I am re-posting the events of Saturday, August 30. Deb and I were enjoying the back areas of the Tonto National Forest in her Jeep. Got to see Roadrunners, Desert Goldfinch, a couple of varieties of Hawks and Golden Eagles. As we were coming down from the last ridge we were on, we saw black smoke. It reminded me of the type of smoke when tires or electrical things burn. We decided to take the road that direction and see if we could find the location of the smoke and ascertain the situation. We ended going down into a deep wash area, and found a man hurt and in shock, with 3rd degree burns and a SMART car becoming a metal shell engulfed in flames. We were able to keep him stable and immobile. the Gentleman- a 67 year old architect who had done some big work, studied at the University of Venice, and was at times incredibly humorous- had cracked vertebrae in the lower T and L areas, and other abrasions from trying to crawl away from the wreak. After the shock his pain came on. During this time Deb somehow got to a place where she hit a single bar signal and talked with the 911 folks. Some other folks came by and helped put the fire out before it spread to other trees around. After about an hour plus the Maricopa Sheriff and Aid Squad made it in, They did great job. Pictures above are from lift off of helicopter after getting the man out from the inaccessible area. Continue to pray for this man - pain and injuries were incredible, and the experience was horrendous for him.
