REBELS GO ON NORTHERN TOUR Fresh from their resounding home win over Edinburgh, which took them to the top of the Premier League table, the ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels now head off on their 3-match Northern Tour. The tour will see them visit Edinburgh (Tonight), Berwick (Saturday) and Glasgow (Sunday), they hopeful of picking up further league points to further enhance their chances of a top 2 finish in the Premier League ahead of the Championship-deciding Play-Offs. “This 3 match tour is never an easy schedule as it can take quite a bit out of both rider and machinery,” said team manager Garry May, “but following their great win over Edinburgh at home on Wednesday night, the boys travel north in good spirits and further league points are definitely the aim of the weekend.” “In saying that, Edinburgh, like ourselves, can boast a 100% home league record and Armadale is never an easy place to go at the best of times, but we will give it our all before heading on to Berwick who are also well in the mix at the business end of the league table.” “We then wrap things up at Glasgow, who may be in the lower reaches of the league table, but have a fairly decent home record.” “So it will be no easy task, but when you get to this stage of the season every match has something riding on it, but having now headed the table, the boys are keen to stay there and this weekend’s matches can go a long way to us achieving that aim.” As far as the opposition are concerned, Edinburgh could well be without the services of their American reserve, Aaron Fox, as he recovers from the after-effects of his fall at Berwick on Tuesday night. Berwick will be without Matthew Wethers, who was also involved in the incident which saw Fox come to grief, and the Bandits will also be without their French recruit, David Bellego, who will be competing in the latest round of the World Under-21 Championship and their free-scoring reserve Matĕj Kůs who is required to ride in the Czech National Pairs Championship. Berwick have, therefore, called upon the services of Thomas Jørgensen and Anders Thomsen as guest replacements for Bellego and Kůs, while they will operate rider replacement in place of Wethers, all bar Claus Vissing being eligible to take his rides. Finally, Glasgow are expected to be at full strength for Somerset’s visit to Ashfield on the Sunday afternoon.
