RECALLING THE ATROCITIES OF NDC..... Major-General Neville Alexander Odartey-Wellington, a Ga was the last Commissioner of Health or Health Minister if you like, and the first casualty of the June 4 coup in 1979. Odartey-Wellington was promoted to Army Commander and so when he heard junior officers were trying to seize power, he led troops to recapture control of Broadcasting House from the renegade forces loyal to Rawlings. He died in action leading loyal troops against revolting forces during the June 4 coup detat. Footage of his dead body being mutilated with bayonets by soldiers was shown on GBC TV. Odartey-Wellington and officers who were killed with him were buried in the anonymity of a mass grave, though he was later exhumed and buried with full military honours for being the soldiers soldier to the very end. At least thats what Rawlings announced on GBC TV. I have reasons not to believe Rawlings.
