RED CROSS TO DEPLOY AMBULANCES, ISSUES SAFETY TIPS FOR INC’s YOLANDA WALKATHON Manila, Philippines – As part of the emergency response of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), ambulances with first aid station will be stationed along the route of the Iglesia ni Cristo’s Yolanda Walkathon on Saturday, February 15. Iglesia ni Cristo’s Yolanda Walkathon is a worldwide walk for a cause which will simultaneously take place in 85 sites nationwide. The event was spearheaded by the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation, and funds will be raised by the P250 registration fee paid by each INC member who will join. In Metro Manila, the walkathon will start at 7 in the morning from the Cultural Center of the Philippines to Rizal Park, where a prayer rally will also be held. Approximately one million INC members are expected to participate in the said event. PRC will deploy a total of 10 ambulances which will be manned by 254 personnel from National Headquarters, Cavite, Manila, Caloocan, Valenzuela, Pasay, Rizal Malabon and Quezon City Chapter. These ambulances will be stationed in Kalaw, Quirino, Padre Faura, Raja Sulayman, United Nations and Pedro Gil. Likewise, PRC has prepared safety reminders for everyone, in order to avoid untoward incidents: 1. Be physically prepared. Children, elderly, pregnant and persons who are sick should avoid crowded places; thus, they are advised to stay at home and rest. 2. Be sure to have identification card, medical information and emergency contact numbers with you. 3. Wear proper clothing and footwear. 4. Bring candies, crackers and bottled water. Drink a lot of fluid to prevent heat exhaustion. 5. Beware of all possible hazards around you during the walk (e.g. motor vehicles, falling debris, etc.). 6. Know where you are at all times. Should you come in groups, assign a designated meeting point in case someone gets lost. 7. Know the location and means of access towards the medical stations, police stations and other available authorities within the area.
