REFLECT on this Sunday’s Readings (1 Thessalonians 5:16-24) “May the God of peace make you perfectly holy and may you entirely, spirit, soul, and body, be preserved blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will also accomplish it.” As we’ve talked about the past few weeks, Advent is a time of preparation for the coming of the Incarnation of God. But WHY? Jesus isn’t literally born every Christmas, why does it matter, it’s not like we’re preparing for a new baby? For me, Advent is a reminder and a calling to rededicate myself to Christ and to allow God’s grace to make me holy. The Church year is broken up into different seasons and there are different “moods” that go along with those. They help us as humans to remember our goals in life and call us to recommit ourselves to faith. Lent is one that people really jump on board with, they set goals, try new things, give up other things… But Advent is another excellent opportunity to draw closer to God. In Advent, we remember how we are called to become holy and to receive God Incarnate more fully into our hearts. “May the God of peace make you PERFECTLY holy.” -- How can I become more perfectly holy? How can God work in my life to make me more perfectly holy? Where do I need to allow God more room to work in my life? Remember, whatever opportunities or areas of your life you open to God, He will fill. He will take every inch we give Him-- so how much of your life will you allow Him to enter? “May you entirely, spirit, soul, and body, be preserved blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” --How am I preparing to receive God Incarnate with my spirit? My soul? My body? Have you asked yourselves those questions and about those dimensions of your person? It opens up a new realm of envisioning how and WHERE we should prepare for God -- how do we do that? Advent is a time of preparing ourselves and reconnecting with our faith. It’s an awesome time to revisit going to Mass, go to confession, do service for your neighbors, give up something for a friend… There are endless ways we can each prepare for the coming of our Lord, the question is, how will YOU? https://youtube/watch?v=iaVPupbNFAo
