REFLECTIONS OF THE PATANI LGA SURE-P SKILL ACQUISITION SCHEME In line with the federal government of Nigeria resolve to channel the funds accrued from the partial removal of subsidy on petroleum products for empowerment and employment generation in a bid to ensure efficient and prudent management of the funds, Patani LGA of Delta State trained a total of 164 beneficiaries amounting to 120 persons from SURE- P and 44 from the Special Empowerment Program of the LGA respectively from June to September 2013 in ICT, Hairdressing, Catering, Building Technology and Tailoring. As a follow- up to this programme, the SURE - P Media and Television Chat Crew from the Abuja office of the Chairman SURE - P, Gen Martin Luther Agwai were in Patani LGA recently to get a first hand information on the 3 months Programme. Speaking during an interview segment, the Chairman, Chief Dr Chris Ekiyor gave a run down of the programme, prospects and challenges encountered but was quick to remark that most beneficiaries of the programme were already working with the vocations they were trained in. The essence of the scheme, he said, was aimed at developing the human capital, a veritable offshoot of sustainable development, growth, self reliance as well as job creation. During the chat show, some of the beneficiaries were interviewed who in turns expressed their confidence on the success of the programme saying that they were gradually making a living from the various trainings undergone during the programme. They are; Bowei Esther and Princess Ossai (ICT), Mrs Oki Ebibo ( HAIRDRESSING), Mattew Esara (BUILDING TECHNOLOGY ), Mie- ebi Pele- ebiomo Charity (CATERING ) and Mrs Timi Ziware ( TAILORING).
