REFUGEES: Starting this Sunday we will begin collecting items to fill some shoeboxes of our own to send to children across the globe for Christmas! We will track these boxes to see where they go. Deadline to bring stuff in is November 24 at 12pm. Our goal is an ambitious one - we will be attempting to fill 10 boxes. You can pick up items at the Dollar Store or Walmart or Target. We will assemble 5 boxes for boys and 5 for girls (ages 10 and under). Here are some items you can bring in (must be able to fit in a shoebox and leave room for other items): Toys: Include items that children will immediately embrace such as dolls, toy trucks, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, balls, toys that light up and make noise (with extra batteries), etc. School Supplies: Pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc. Hygiene Items: Toothbrush, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, washcloth, etc. NO liquids or spray cans. Clothing: T-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries). Money: Do NOT put the money in the box, but we will use it to help cover the cost of shipping for each box ($7/box). Bring in a couple dollars if you can. Do Not Include: Used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolate or food; out-of-date candy; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.
