The targets may be shot in any order. All doubles are presented prior to the first squad of the day only, unless there is an interruption in shooting of more than 15 minutes, or if there is a break in the program. The targets will be released upon the shooters call. Practicing is not permitted before the events take place on the layout(s) defined by the layout officials. The shooter can take one shot at each target, or two shots at one target. 7 - Shooting position The shooters hold position is free; shooters may position their guns as they please. Shooters must fire with their guns shouldered on all targets 8 - Guns All shotguns, including semi-automatics 12 gauge are permitted, with a minimum barrel length of 66 cm. An athlete is not able to fire because he has not released the “safety”, the “safety” has slipped to “safe” or he has forgotten to load, the targets must be declared “ZERO” and “ZERO” The double is declared “ZERO” and “ZERO” if the shooter fails to fire at the double without any valid reason. If after a malfunction the athlete has opened the gun or has touched the safety before the Referee has examined the gun, the targets must be declared “ZERO” and “ZERO”. If there is a cartridge or gun malfunction (including double discharge) on either first or second shot, as confirmed by the referee, a first warning is given. The shooter must repeat the double, with both targets to count. For a second or subsequent malfunction in the same round, the targets must be declared “ZERO” and “ZERO”, irrespective if the malfunction is on the first or second shot. In the case of a semi-automatic, the athlete has failed to release the stop on the magazine, the targets must be declared “ZERO” and “ZERO” The time limit (see rule 11.14) is violated and the athlete has been warned once already in the same round the targets must be declared “ZERO” and “ZERO” An athlete fails to fire his second shot because he forgot to place a second cartridge in the gun, to release the stop on the magazine of a semi-automatic shotgun, or because the safety has slipped to the “safe” position by recoil of the first shot the result of the first shot must be recorded and the second target declared “ZERO” 10.3 “No bird” Targets A “No bird” decision is always the Referee’s responsibility A Double declared as a “No bird” by the Referee must always be repeated irrespective if one or both targets have been HIT or NOT The Referee must, if possible, call “No bird” before the athlete fires, but if he calls “No bird” after the athlete fires a “No bird” must be declared regardless of whether the targets were HIT or NOT. If the target is not thrown by the correct trap. The Referee is satisfied that the athlete, after calling for the Double was visibly disturbed by some external cause; The Referee detects an initial violation of the time limit (art. 11.14) , at the second incident on the same layout, the target will be declared ZERO/ZERO. The Double is thrown before the athlete’s call After a “No bird” is declared the athlete may open the gun and reposition himself. An athlete shoots out of turn; The first time he will receive a WARNING, at the second incident on the same layout, the target will be declared ZERO/ZERO. An initial double discharge, the two shots are fired simultaneously due to a gun malfunction, even if the first target was broken. The double will be declared “no target” and the double will need to be repeated. If the same situation occurs for a second or subsequent time both targets must be declared “ZERO” If the shooter fires his gun involuntarily on the shooting stand, whether whilst loading or because of a mishap before saying READY. However, an athlete is permitted only one (1) occurrence in the same round. If the same situation occurs for a second or subsequent time both targets must be declared “ZERO” One (1) or both of the targets are irregular; The targets are not thrown simultaneously Only one (1) target is thrown; Fragments from one (1) target break the other target; Both shots are fired simultaneously (Number of Malfunctions Permitted). The shooter receives a warning for the first incident of gun malfunction and the double is called “No bird”.
